Holmes is an easy-to-use addition to MacOS 8.5's Sherlock which provides the user with the ability to create search sets with similar Internet Search Sites (plugins) grouped together.

System Requirements
+ MacOS 8.5
+ Internet connection (required for Sherlock's Search the Internet)
+ One or more plugins (MacOS 8.5 comes with a few, more can be found at: <http://www.apple-donuts.com/> and other places). Apple Donuts as has "sets" that you can directly import into Holmes; you'll need to install the plugins from their site (for a particular set) prior to importing the set into Holmes.
Getting Started
1. Install as many plugins as you'd like in the Internet Search Sites in the System Folder (we recommend limiting this to 100-150 as Sherlock takes longer to start when there are more plugins).
2. Launch Holmes
3. You will initially be presented with a search dialog as seen below.

4. From the File Menu, choose Manage Sets. You will be presented with the dialog box as seen below.

5. Click on New and you will be asked to choose a name for the set. Give it a name that is meaningful to you for the type of search sites you'd like to search. For example, enter Macintosh if you want the set to consist of Macintosh sites.
6. Next you will be presented with a list of sites. Select the sites you'd like to include in this set. If the plugin has a description, it will appear at the bottom of the screen. When done, click OK. The window can be seen below.

7. Once you have added some sets to Holmes, the Manage Sets window will be ready to use. Note: If a search window has a set selected, the name of the set will appear in italic in the Manage Sets window.

8. Now you're ready to search! If you don't already have a search window open, select New Search from the File Menu (you can have as many search windows open as you want as long as you have enough memory). Alternatively, you can select a search site from within the Manage Sets window and click Search; a new Search Window will appear with the selected search set already selected. Enter your search string and from the Set menu (in the search window), choose which set you want to search. Then click Search. Holmes will send the appropriate information to Sherlock and Sherlock will do the search.

Note: The more search sites you have selected for each set, the more memory is required for Sherlock; Sherlock may report an out of memory error if you try to search too many sites, such as the All Engines one shown in one of the above pictures.

10. In addition to being able to access Holmes via the main application, you can install the included HolmesCMPlugin file in your Contextual Menu Items folder (just drop the file on your closed System Folder and the Finder will put it in the right place). From within any application that supports Contextual Menus (in some form or another), highlight some text, hold down the control key and click. From the Contextual Menu, choose Find with Holmes. Next you will be presented with a list of the sets you've created with Holmes. Select a set and off you go. Note: Holmes does not need to be open to use this.

License
Imagina Software, Inc. grants you a license to use the demonstration version of this software on as many machines as needed to evaluate for a period of 3 weeks. After purchasing the software, you are granted a license to use the software on as many machines as you purchased licenses. You may not lease, rent, merge, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software. This license is effective until terminated. This license will terminate automatically without notice if you fail to comply with any provision of the license. You may voluntarily terminate at any time. Upon termination you agree to destroy or purge all copies of the software. This license is non-transferrable.
Purchasing
Holmes costs $18 (US Dollars) per user. Paying for Holmes is fairly simple. Open the Register program that accompanies Holmes. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of licenses you wish to purchase. Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi. If you like, you can go to our website at: <http://www.imaginasw.com/> and purchase through the web. Kagi handles payment processing for this product.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.

You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment.
Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on our behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.
Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email and without the payment, the form cannot be processed.
Payments send via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed.
